Spoiler: It might be earlier than you think.

Ah, summer. The days are long, the weather is warm, and – believe it or not – it might be the perfect time to start planning your company’s holiday gifts.

When should you start planning your holiday gifts? While it’s never too early, the optimal timing can really vary, depending on the specific nature of your gift campaign. Are you producing custom swag? Do you have a lot of recipients, and are they located in different countries?

When Should You Start Planning Your Holiday Gifts?

Are you interested in custom merch?

If the answer is yes, then it’s a good idea to set up a kickoff call with Goody’s team in July or August. That ensures you’ll have ample time for production and delivery by the holidays.

By September, you should have your budget, recipients, and gift selections close to locked down. You should place your order no later than October 18.

Can you send custom merch (or other gifts) later than October 18? Absolutely. Many of Goody’s swag products are produced on demand. Yet kicking off the planning process in the summer makes sure you have maximum options for your gift campaign.

Are you planning a large (500+ gift) order?

If you’re responsible for a larger gift order, then it’s also a good idea to set up a kickoff call with Goody’s team in July or August – whether or not it includes custom merch.

That will ensure you have enough time for any bells and whistles like curating a custom collection or digital branding. You’ll most likely want to place your order in November for physical delivery by the holidays.

Do you have international recipients?

If the answer is yes, then you should finalize your plans in July, August or September. (Related reading: How To Send International Corporate Gifts on Goody.)

Bear in mind that most international gifts in Goody’s collection ship from the U.S. That can add several additional weeks to the delivery timeline. So you’ll want to schedule your gifts for November, to ensure delivery by the holidays in the 140+ countries where Goody ships.

None of the above?

If your order doesn’t contain custom merch, has fewer than 500 gifts, and is entirely domestic, then you can sit back and relax. Kick off your planning by September, and schedule gifts for early December.

Questions To Ask During Your Planning Process

Here are some questions to ask while you plan your company’s holiday gifts.

  • How many recipients do I have?
  • What is my all-in budget per recipient (including taxes, shipping, etc.)?
  • In which countries are my recipients located?
  • Do I want to send custom-branded merch or branded packaging?
  • Whom will I need to work with internally with for approvals, input, and decision making?
  • Do I want to send everyone the same gift, or give options like a custom gift collection or the Gift of Choice?
  • Do I want to add any digital branding, such as a custom card or custom collection?
