The Team at Goody Shares Motherhood Insights & Favorite Gifts for Mother's Day

As Mother's Day approaches this Sunday, we're feeling extra excited here at Goody. We have more moms on our team than ever before. Plus, our staff uses Goody to recognize our own moms, of course! 

We went straight to the source to ask Goody's resident experts (i.e. moms) how they balance the demands of motherhood and career — and what gifts they'd love to get this Mother's Day. We also surveyed the non-moms on our team to find out what they're getting their mothers.

Sherine Rahimi, VP of Sales

How do you juggle the demands of your career with your responsibilities as a mother?

First of all, I just want to call out that all mamas are working mamas. Being a mom is already a full time job in itself so pulling double (or more) duty is something worthy of acknowledgment!

I won’t sugarcoat that being a corporate working mom is easy. It takes a lot of discipline and constant time management to balance my family, my work and truthfully, myself, so I can try to show up as the best version of me in all arenas. It’s a constant work in progress! It took me some time to find my latest groove but I think my biggest learning that has helped me thus far is being super vigilant about how I spend my time and how I organized my calendar after returning from maternity leave. I feel really fortunate to work with a very supportive team who accommodated calendar adjustments when I returned and who still do when life happens (which anyone with a newborn or kids knows, it certainly happens!). Overall, setting upfront/transparent boundaries with my schedule and being over-communicative about the status of my deliverables has been what has helped me most in my transition. 

If you could go back in time and revise your baby registry, what would you change?

I definitely went a little too far on the burp cloths and blankets. In my defense, I had been told I could never have enough! Jokes aside, I was fortunate that I had some great exposure to awesome brands from working at Goody so I had some fantastic items I bought that if I could edit my registry, I would have added more of their products.

One example in particular is the brand Slumberkins - I just love the positive messages and beautiful stories they’ve incorporated in their books, and they’ve become some of my favorites to read to my daughter. Their stuffed animals are pretty adorable too. We have the unicorn whose specific lesson is about the importance of authenticity and self-expression.

What gift on Goody would you want to receive on Mother’s Day?‍

I’d probably hope to get something luxurious that is focused on self-care and that is aesthetically pleasing to look at, like the beautiful Essential Duo from Oak Essentials. Their products have rave reviews and they would be a little treat to look forward to using, particularly on the more hectic working mama days!

If you had to choose one parenting mantra for yourself, what would it be?

“It takes a village to raise a child.” I never understood that expression before I had children, but it truly takes the input, lived experience, effort and care (as well as ears and eyes!) of many individuals to support a child’s upbringing. From grandparents, aunts and uncles, to teachers, coaches and even other parents from within your immediate community - all of these voices have an outsized impact on a child’s development. Especially as a busy working parent having a support system that you can rely on is essential.

What are you most proud of in your motherhood journey?

Motherhood is a journey of many emotions. Some days the definition of success is survival and some days it’s accomplishing more than you thought was even possible. When I can give myself the grace to be “okay” with the messiness of motherhood and parenting - it feels like an accomplishment I can be proud of. 

Also, anytime my older son (Gregory, 9) gets a hit on the baseball field or throws a strike on the pitcher’s mound or my younger son (Evan, 3) gets a sticker on his homework or kudos from his teacher, I’m bursting with pride for their hard work, the role I played in it and the positive outcome produced. 

What gift on Goody would you want to receive on Mother’s Day?

I recently received a bud vase from Year & Day and I’m really loving their housewares. Super high quality and beautiful to put on display. For an effective skincare moment, products from Oak Essentials are top-notch. I also have my eye on a very stylish 10-cup coffee maker from Smeg ;)
