Tips for Sending Christmas and Holiday Gifts on Goody (2022 Edition)

Looking to send personal gifts on Goody this holiday season? You've come to the right place.

Want to use Goody to send gifts to your friends and family this holiday season?

You’ve come to the right place. This post will cover the who, what, when, where and why of sending holiday gifts.

Who should I gift?

Anyone! Moms, dads, siblings, stepparents, significant others, aunts, uncles, in-laws, grandparents. Your bestie at work. Your super, hairdresser, or assistant.

My favorite people to gift? Close friends I didn’t spend enough time with in 2022.

What should I send?

That’s the easiest part. Goody’s Holiday Gift Guide includes dozens of options, with something for everyone. We have both Christmas and Hanukkah gift guides, gifts for him, gifts for her, and even gifts for friends with babies and kids.

Choosing a gift on Goody shouldn’t feel high-stakes, because if your recipient doesn’t like what you chose, they can always swap it for something else. For example, last week I sent my stepbrother a bottle of Veuve Cliquot for his birthday, and was delighted to see he swapped it for a Homesick Candle. Turns out he doesn’t like champagne!

But you don’t have to choose any gift at all. The most popular gift on Goody is the Treat Yourself Gift Collection. You simply set a price point (which your recipient doesn’t see), and let them choose any gift they want from our entire collection. It’s just like sending a gift card, but it feels way less transactional. For recipients, choosing any gift you want is a blast.

  • Tip: If sending a Gift Collection, we recommend a price point of $75-100, which unlocks the widest range of gifts in our store. You’ll never pay more than the price you set, and you'll usually pay less.

When should I send it?

Timing is one of the ways Goody is different from traditional Christmas gifting. Normally, you’d stress about ordering something well in advance, say early December, to ensure it arrives physically before December 25. You might even opt for a sub-optimal gift because you know it will get there in time.

With Goody, the difference is that your digital card, message and “gift” can arrive immediately when you send it. For the person on the receiving end, even though they won’t necessarily have a physical gift in hand by Christmas, it never feels belated or last-minute.

So with that said, we recommend sending your Goody digital notification anytime during “peak Christmas,” December 21 through December 25

For professional connections, it might be better to send your gift notification a bit earlier, such as December 12 through December 23, since Christmas Eve and Day is traditionally reserved for family time.

  • Pro tip: If your recipient is traveling for the holidays and won’t be home to accept delivery of their gift, tell them to accept it later. The link doesn’t expire, so they can claim it when they’re back home.

Where (and how) can I send my Goody?

The most common (and recommended) way to send a Goody is via SMS notification. You simply add your contact’s phone number, and Goody sends them a text message with a link to view your gift, swap it if they’d like, and add their shipping info.

Alternatively, you can also get a link to send yourself. You can simply copy the link into an email or text message, and your recipient will receive your card and gift in the same way.

Can I print a Goody gift link to include in a physical card?

Absolutely! There are two different ways to do this: with a link shortener or with a QR code.

Step 1: Send a gift and choose “Get a link to send” as your sending method.

Step 2 (if generating a QR code):

Copy your gift link URL into a free QR code generator. (You don’t need to sign up or create an account.)

  • Alternatively, if you use Google Chrome, you could open your gift link, right-click the page, and click “Create QR code for this page.”

Step 2 (if using a link shortener):

Copy your gift link URL into a free link shortener

Step 3: Add your QR code or shortened link in a physical card.

The link is already active and doesn’t expire. So once you have your short link or QR code in a card, you can mail it out, stick it under the tree, or drop it on someone’s hands, and they’ll be able to claim their Goody.

Why should I send my holiday gifts on Goody?

The holidays are a season for giving and recognizing the people we love. Yet unfortunately, in the United States in particular, they’re also a time of extraordinary waste.

An estimated $8.3 billion will be spent in 2022 on holiday gifts that people don’t want. More than 52% of women and 54% of men say they receive at least one unwanted gift during the holidays.

Take it from me, as someone who sends a lot of Goody gifts, it’s humbling how often I get it wrong. I think I’ve found the perfect gift for someone, but then they swap it for something else.

Yet far from being a negative, seeing my gifts get swapped is a wonderful feeling. With Goody, I know my loved one is getting something they really want. There’s no re-gifting, no gifts that end up in landfills, and no waste.
